My 5 Simple Things

What's up with my blog title?

What are my five simple things?

Here's the story in a nut shell.

A few years ago, life seemed a bit overwhelming, so much going on within our family dynamics; milestone events, new ventures starting, life was happening far too fast for me.  So I did what I always seem to do when I start to become an observer rather than a participant. I quiet myself, take a few deep  breathes and pray for Wisdom.

I needed to simplify!

But how?

I'm a list-maker, so I made a list of all the important areas of my world. It was a very long list!  Using my God-given talent to break down big projects into baby steps, I started to categorize and sub categorize...think that's a bit much?...nope, that is just how my mind naturally works.  But it was working because I started to notice a pattern, my eyes were being opened!

Everything was neatly fitting into five focus areas.  That was it, why hadn't I noticed that before? One person can not go in twenty different directions at once! Focus!  Now, instead of feeling overwhelmed by life, I felt an overwhelming peace. Thank you Jesus!

I felt as though my eyesight needed to be narrowed in order for my eyes to become wide open; to see better.

In scrapbooking terms, I needed to "crop" my picture in order to cut out all the un-necessary parts and bring into focus the most important.

So, what are my Five Simple Things.
Family, Me, Home, Ministry, Hobbies

I did not need to include religion in my list
(if you were wondering) because my faith
is an intricate part of every area in my life!

This list has helped me immensely in the last few years, to cut down & cut out things that stole precious 'space' in our lives, home and hearts.

Everyone's areas of focus will be different; there is no right or wrong list, it is a highly personalized process.

I could try to give you full explanations of each area but I won't. I would only suggest that if you feel overwhelmed, over-busy or that life is passing you by too quickly, simply take a step back, calm yourself, pray and prioritize!
